Hapuka ( Hapuku ) and Bass Fishing Charters

Both Hapuka and Bass are deep water powerhouses of New Zealand fishing!
These two closely related species grow to large sizes and are renowned for their exceptional fighting ability.
The North Island Hapuka and Bass hotspots include reefs and banks around the Three Kings Islands, White Island, and Ranfurly Banks.

Hapuka ( Hapuku ) and Bass Information:

Hapuka have a deeper body, brown-gray color, and larger head, while Bass have a streamlined body, green-gray color, and smaller head.
Hapuka prefer ricky reefs and structures, while Bass inhabit a range of habitats, including coastal waters, estuaries and rivers.
Hapuka require heavier tackle and bottom fishing, while Bass can be caught using lighter tackle and various techniques.

Hapuka ( Hapuku ) growth rates:

Juvenile stage 1-3 years, 10-30 cm (4-12 inches) in length, 0.5-2kg (1.1-4.4 lbs) weight. 
Sub-adult stage 4-7 years, 30-60 cm (12-24 inches) in length, 2-10 kg (4.4-22 lbs) weight.
Adult stage 8-20 years, 60-120 cm (24-47 inches) in length, 10-40 kg (22-88 lbs) weight.

Maximum size up to 50 kg (110 lbs), 180 cm in length.

Bass growth rates:

Juvenile stage: 1-2 years, 10-20 cm in length and weighing 0.1-1 kgs.
Sub-adult stage 2-5 years, 20-40 cm in length and weighing 1-5 kgs.
Adult stage 5-12 years, 40-80 cm in length and weighing 5-15 kgs.
Maximum size up to 20 kg (44 lbs), 100 cm in length.
