80kg yellowfin and 4 Marlin at The Three KingsThe Three Kings is fishing well with deep blue water coming and going with the tides on both the king and Middlesex banks. The Middlesex has the warmer (20.8c the best we saw) and bluer water. Good numbers of Marlin are on both banks and our monster YTF came from the king bank.There was only 2 of us on the boat so it was a real workout for us both and a fantastic experience. We also caught a massive thresher shark which as always was hooked in the tail when it tail whacked a game lure at 8 knots. The fight took 1.5!hours on very high drags.

Being hooked in the tail means they can really pull hard. We also hooked up a massive blue marlin which would be enough to justify the trip on it’s own, it got off after 10 minutes but we have nothing but great memories of it and can’t wait for the next. I’ve been game fishing since the 80s. The first big gamefish I saw was a 69kg pin fish with Rick Pollock on Pursuit. That was the biggest YFT I’d ever seen until this monster wheeled in under our transom creating major excitement for Celestia and I. It put up a great fight and a dogged pin wheeling battle by the boat on high drag. Celestia kept increasing the drag and after 65 minutes and a lot of effort plus a bent gaff we had it in the boat.

The immense size put a huge smile on both our faces and yahoo’s a plenty. Each of the 4 Marlin were tons of fun with plenty of spectacular runs, jumps and visual displays. Theres likely to be a strong late bite there so we are returning to The Kings on Sunday the 23rd of May and have places for individuals and groups available.
