Anzac Marlin Double from Whangaroa

Anzac Marlin Double from Whangaroa

Anzac Marlin Double from Whangaroa!

Thanks to our forbearers! Their sacrifices bought us our freedom.

On the day they gave the ultimate sacrifice we were lucky to go fishing as a family and have the amazing experience of catching 2 striped Marlin.

After fishing for Marlin since he was a young lad my cousin Brad Grant tagged and released his first stripy estimated at 100kg. Brad had lost a massive YFT after a 3.75 hour battle at age 12 which had left him just a little scared. He claims our other cousin Jonny pinched his Marlin in 2008 and brings that up everytime we all catchup.

He landed a pacific bluefin off Greymouth with us in 2018 to help ease the pain of the lost yft but today he was estatic to finally tag a Marlin. Now he’s just a little cocky if I’m honest…. but it’s great to see Cuz. The next strike went to my 14 year old Son Donovan who started marlin fishing this year. The big stripy took to the air in spectacular fashion and ripped 600m off the Tiara 80 in no time. Donovan then settled into a dogged fight of winning line only to lose it again. After an hour we had it near the boat and 10mins later Donovan was holding the bill for photos.

Estimated at 140kg his was also tagged and released. They were both Marlin virgins and are stoked to have popped their cherries. Being School holidays this was a family trip. Brad had his 6 year old Son Alec giving support between Nintendo games. I was of course supporting and elated to see my Son Donovan get his first Marlin. Fantastic family Day!

😀Lest we forget.
